Overview
The Jamaica Library Service
provides under the Ministry of Education & Youth, a Public
Library Network and a Schools Library Network. The organization is
managed at two levels through a Central Statutory body - the Jamaica
Library Board and the local Parish Library Committees.
The Service is organized with the
administrative headquarters in Kingston and a network of service points
scattered throughout thirteen (13) parishes, which are arranged in six (6)
regions. At the administrative level the organization is headed by a
Director General who reports directly to the Board of Directors.

The JLS exists to
enable national development through the creation and support of a
knowledge-based society of culturally aware lifelong learners by
providing universal access to information. This will be achieved by
being customer-focused and technology-enhanced; in an aesthetically

The National Library
Network
The
National Library Network (NLN) was established as a result of a restructuring
exercise within the organisation. The NLN is headed
by the Senior Director and has responsibility for the operation of both
the Schools and Public Library Networks.
